There are five passes in the Allier department. The Montagne Bourbonnaise is the highest area in the department. And logically, it's in this mid-mountain zone that the main passes are located. There are four of them.
The Col de la Loge des Gardes is the highest pass in the Allier department, with a peak of 1,077 m. There are several good ascents from the Montagne Bourbonnaise, notably via Laprugne (D182) or La Chabanne (D177). The pass is also accessible from the Loire department.
Cycle tour N° 8 Au cœur de la Montagne Bourbonnaise takes you over the Col de la Loge des Gardes and the Rivière Noire.
The Col de la Plantade and the Col du Beau Louis require a small detour on the circuit.
