Château du Bost was probably built under Charles VII.
The seigneury of Bost (or Box, from "bocus", the wood) is attested to since the early 15th century, as is the château, in the possessions of a family bearing the same local name. Château du Bost was then successively owned by the de La Mer de Matha, Chapus, François Givois and Ernest-Léon Alfred Sanhard viscount de Choumouroux families. Beautifully refurbished in the 19th century, the town of Bellerive bought the property in 1956 from the heirs of Count Couret de Villeneune and his wife Marie-Rose Serraillier. Today, Château du Bost is a gourmet hotel-restaurant.
