In 1763, parishioners built a church on the square, at the crossroads of the roads from Vichy, Cusset and Busset.
It was disused around 1935, following lengthy clerical battles between the opposing clans of successive mayors and priests.
In 1911, Abbé Cornil had built a chapel dedicated to Notre-Dame de la Salette, which had long been the object of fervent veneration in Le Vernet.
The chapel housed statues of the Virgin Mary and Saint George slaying the dragon, patron saint of the parish. The transfer of worship to the private chapel left the former church useless, and it was converted into a village...
