Hôtel du Parc, 21-23 rue du Parc, 03200 Vichy
The Hôtel du Parc, so named since 1862, appears on maps dating back to 1844 making it one of the oldest hotels in Vichy.
Throughout its lifetime, the hotel has undergone numerous episodes of expansion and redevelopment, evolving from a simple "lodge" into a luxury hotel, notably under the leadership of Joseph Aletti, director from 1901. In the period 1905-1907, he commissioned the architect Antoine Percilly to supervise major renovation works: the hotel was raised by two floors, enhanced with a domed corner turret, and fitted out with every modern comfort. An annex was added, Le Majestic, a fully independent luxury hotel built by René Moreau, boasting a luxurious dining room shared by both buildings. Between 1924 and 1926, the architect R. Moreau oversaw another important renovation project, consisting primarily of fitting out ground floor boutiques for luxury brands such as Vuitton and Van Cleef & Arpels. In 1940, the Hôtel du Parc housed the offices of Philippe Pétain and Pierre Laval, as well as those of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Information, and the General Secretariat of the French State. The hotel would never recover from this disastrous publicity and, by the early 1950s, had been converted into a private residence. Since 1954, the former dining room of the famous Le Chanteclerc restaurant has been occupied by the tourist office.
